Veterinary Laser Therapy: Easing Pain & Speeding Recovery

laser therapy on dog

Watching your pet endure pain can be more difficult than experiencing the pain yourself. The use of laser therapy at Barton Heights Veterinary Hospital has resulted in advanced pain relief and shortened recovery time from numerous conditions.

How Does it Work?

Laser therapy was originally developed in Europe and has been used in sports medicine to relieve pain and improve the body’s ability to heal. The light energy from the laser stimulates cell growth, which speeds healing. In addition, the light energy also encourages the release of endorphins, which relieve pain.

The procedure is painless, non-invasive, and takes little time to complete. Laser therapy also doesn’t have the many side effects that often accompany long-term use of prescription medicines. We are excited to be able to offer the increased quality of life that results from laser therapy.

Laser therapy is used both by our general practitioners and our rehab veterinarian for:

  • Arthritis pain
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Ear infections
  • Open wounds
  • Surgical recovery
  • Gingivitis
  • Bladder problems
  • Skin conditions

Arthritis Treatment

One of the most dramatic applications for laser therapy has been in treating arthritis in aging pets. At Barton Heights Veterinary Hospital, we have seen amazing increases in quality of life for pets and considerable improvement in mobility and flexibility after a short amount of therapy time. A standard treatment schedule consists of six sessions over two weeks, followed by regular, once-a-month sessions. We have seen dogs’ lives extended for years as a result of this therapy and encourage you to discuss it with our veterinarians.
