• Pyometra

  Pyometra is an infection of the uterus. It is considered serious and life-threatening for both dogs and cats.

  The preferred treatment is to surgically remove the uterus and ovaries by performing an ovariohysterectomy (spay), which is slightly more complicated than a routine spay.

• Cystotomy

  During a cystotomy, our vets remove a dog's or cat's bladder stones.

• Amputations

  Injuries or tumors sometimes result in diagnoses that make amputations necessary. This is considered major surgery.

• Gastropexy / Bloat Surgery

  During this procedure, the stomach is secured to the body wall to prevent the stomach from twisting. Several different types of gastropexy are common, with both large surgical incisions (laparotomy) and minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques.

  Gastropexy may be performed as emergency surgery for dogs suffering from gastric dilatation and volvulus (stomach bloat) or as a preventive measure to keep stomach distention and rotation from occurring.

• Perineal Urethrostomy

  Perineal Urethrostomy is a type of urogenital surgery most commonly performed on male cats. This procedure bypasses a blocked or restricted section of the urethra which may be making it difficult to properly urinate.

The Veterinary Surgery Process

Surgical protocols at our clinic include:

Pre-surgical assessments. We will confirm the specifics of the procedure, complete a physical examination of the patient, and make sure blood tests have been completed and reviewed by the vet to determine if your pet faces any risk of anesthesia-related complications.

Dedicated surgical suites. Surgeries are performed in a dedicated surgical suite. This room is kept completely sterile to prevent infection and cross-contamination.

Surgical attire. Our staff wears disposable caps and masks at all times when they are in the surgical suite. Those involved in the procedure itself will also wear sterile gowns and single-use gloves.

Sterile packs and equipment. We carefully clean, sterilize and wrap our surgical instruments and equipment before every surgery.
